Basic Make-up Tips
Moisturize your face.
Apply foundation (consult local cosmetic store to determine the shade that is right for you). Do not use so much foundation that your face becomes a different colour than your neck; this looks too unnatural.
Use a finishing power or an oil blotting powder that sets the foundation, especially if it is a liquid foundation. This prevents your face from looking shiny. Make sure you apply powder over the lids because it provides a base for the eyeshadow and makes it easier to apply smoothly.
DO NOT apply lipstick to one lip and not the other. That sucks! After putting on lipstick, rub lips together to ensure even distribution of lip colour. Fold lips together and use a napkin to wipe off the excess. Then line lips with a colour lip pencil that is slightly darker than the lipstick. Rub lips together again to blend.
If you use blush, start with the brush on your cheek just under the eye then brush upwards into the hairline. Be careful not to use too much so you don’t like like a clown or that you belong to the 60s.
Apply eye liner before mascara to avoid lashes sticking together. Only use liquid eye liner if you have a VERY steady hand. Otherwise, use either an automatic wand or a pencil eye liner. (More on eye shadow application later)
Apply eye shadow next. Start with a base colour close to your complexion on the entire lid, from lash to brow. Use a dark colour in the crease of the eye lid and a lighter colour as the highlighter on the brow.
