The Secret To Happiness

Have you ever felt as though you were waiting to be happy? You know what I mean, you say things like I will be happy when I graduate from secondary school or Community College or when I get into University or when I start my career, or when I get that promotion or ...

But the true way to be happy is to live your best life now. This is done by living a life of appreciation and gratitude for all you have in your life. Gratitude and appreciation have a similar affect on your progress and development as a positive spirit.

Gratitude is a key ingredient to happiness.

Having gratitude allows you to see the opportunities in your life as opposed to the opportunities in other peoples’ lives that you don’t have. When we seek to dwell on what we perceive as wrong with our lives we do not see all that we have going for us. When you nitpick and complain you shut yourself off from any positive openings that may occur.

Gratitude like positivity inspires creativity and attracts wellness and prosperity to us in all areas of our lives. It also frees us from the burden of waiting for possessions or accolades or accomplishments to be happy.

The abundance in our lives comes from a state of being at peace with ourselves. Peace comes with a comfort with ourselves as opposed to relying on the world view of us which is based on our possessions or achievements.

Waiting on gaining possessions and accolades to make you happy will never satisfy you. When you achieve that first accolade or achievement then you will want another one to be happy and then another one and another one before you can be happy. Living like this, you will never be happy because nothing will ever be enough. Therefore, appreciate the good in your life and be happy now while you are on your quest to achieve your dreams.

It is hard to develop gratitude for your life as you see it now, especially if you have had the opinion that your life stinks or that it could not get any worse.

Another detractor from developing a grateful attitude – a society that says that being grateful or content where you are shows a lack of ambition. This is not the case as you can be ambitious and have strong dreams and pursue those dreams and be thankful, content and appreciative that you have the health, strength and chance to aim for your dream or even to be in a place to dream.

However, taking some time to evaluate your life you may realise that you have quite a bit to be thankful for. In the midst of all that may be going wrong, things could be worse. You could lack the opportunities that you have in your country or you could be worse off healthwise.

So let go of all your worries and hang ups about tomorrow and be grateful for what you have today because there is no guarantee that you will have all you hope for tomorrow or will even be here to enjoy it.

So take those walks on the beach to appreciate the nature and beauty of your island; spend time with family and friends to appreciate all the love in your life; take advantage of the opportunities that lie in your path, educational and career wise, and be grateful you are able to pursue your dreams. Spend time alone to appreciate being YOU.
