Why You Should Never Give Up

“The Race is not given to the swift or the strong but those who can endure to the end”. For as long as I have been alive this has been the mantra in my household.

What does this mean? In simple terms, you are not a winner because you achieved success quickly but because you persevered until you achieved your goals. In honour of perseverance and how important it is in our success I present to you four reasons it never fails.

Never give up!

1. It inspires us to never give up on our dreams. By strengthening our resolve, adopting a spirit and attitude of perseverance, we are often motivated to keep moving towards our dreams even in moments that could depress us and cause us to quit before we achieve our dream.

2. Perseverance enhances our sense of satisfaction from seeing the fruit of our hard work. Knowing that you could have quit and lost the chance to have this success makes the thrill of the victory even sweeter. Otherwise you would have been plagued with “What if I had tried something else?”

3. On that note, perseverance pushes us to try different methods to achieving our goals. Without perseverance, at the first sign of opposition we would say you know what this is not working lets walk away. If we decide to persevere, then we will keep trying or even adjust our methods until we find one that works.

4. Builds our reputation in our circle of influence – to be known as the one who did not quit and achieved your dreams, is a sure way to generate respect from your friends, family and associates. While it is not the motivating factor in persevering to acheive your goals, it is a great fringe benefit.

One example, if Steve Jobs had given up the first time Apple went into a slump with the emergence of Microsoft and other competitors, this inventive company would not be occupying pride of place in the tech world. Instead, the team behind Apple, came with a different approach and they crafted the innovative and trendy image of this tech giant.

Do you want to walk around for the rest of your life saying, what if? No then cultivate the virtue of perseverance and you will go far.
