Every day people the world over take vitamins supplements with their meals. Whether it is B-Complex or multivitamins that contain every FDA approved vitamin on record, this is one of the biggest selling industries worldwide. We do this to make up for eating diets that are not naturally high in the vitamins and minerals that we need on a daily basis to maintain healthy bodies.
Some pundits argue that these supplements are not needed. These supplements may not be as effective as we believe and stored under inappropriate conditions may lose their potency. Therefore, their suggestion: eat a balanced diet and skip the supplements.
Others argue that our current lifestyles do not facilitate the consumption on a regular basis of foods with the necessary nutrients. Hence, we have to take these supplements to replace the source of vitamins and minerals that we are no longer consuming due to our fast-paced lifestyle.

Studies show no difference between those who took multivitamins and those who did not. There are several studies that showed those who take multivitamins are no less likely to develop cancer, high blood pressure or any other chronic disease.
Calling the health benefits “iffy” at best, critics state that this is just another waste of money since we either pass out the supplements in our urine for the water soluble options or store them in our liver to toxic effects for the fat soluble ones.
Their suggestion: Try to get your vitamins and minerals from their natural sources which would provide the most benefits.
Argument 2: We need vitamin supplements.
The food that we consume, even vegetables and fruits are growing less nutritious over the long-term. This is due to the pesticides and other unnatural growing methods of these vital foods. The fact that we are eating less healthy foods as a result of our busy schedules also reduces our intake of vitamins and minerals from natural sources.
Therefore, we need these vitamin supplements to improve the chances that we will consume the necessary nutrients to be healthy and have the energy as well as the sustenance to fulfil our daily tasks.
Their suggestion: Take a multivitamin that complements your diet and has the potential to add any nutrients that would be missing from your diet.
Both arguments make valid and interesting points. Having a look at these opposing sides, it is up to us to decide whether we use multivitamins or not based on our own lifestyle.
