Getting Over Your Sleep Issues
I have no problem getting to sleep. Unlike other people who have insomnia, my issue is waking up. I can easily sleep ten or eleven hours per night and still feel exhausted. How do we solve these divergent issues in sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead?

Sleeping is an essential part of our lives to ensure that we are able to complete the tasks that we have for each day. Therefore, we need to ensure that we are getting enough restful sleep to wake up feeling energised. However, too much sleep is just as destructive.
Oversleeping
-
Sleep is not a hobby – When I was younger, people would ask me what my hobbies were and I would say reading and sleeping. Sleep is something you need to survive and function, not a hobby such as playing a sport. Too much sleep has very nasty effects as well. Determine how much sleep you need to function and stick to that amount.
-
Have a to-do list – Plan your day ahead of time so that your brain is conscious of a reason to get up in the morning. Keep that list close by and when you open your eyes in the morning, read it to yourself to give yourself the buzz needed to get up.
-
Set your alarm - When your alarm goes off, get up, open the curtains, and wash your face to let your brain and body know that it’s time to get up. Ensure that you do this despite how you feel initially. Soon enough it will become a part of your routine and it will be easier to get up.
Insomnia
-
Exercise – Tension can cause insomnia. Incorporating stretching and exercise into your daily routine will relax your body and mind and make it easier for you to sleep peacefully.
-
Don’t snack at bedtime – Avoid eating within two hours of going to bed because this has the potential to raise your blood pressure and your energy level, keeping you alert and awake.
-
Take warm baths – This will help relax your muscles and your brain and put you in the right frame of mind for bed.
