NexCyx Turns It Up!
If you haven't heard of NexCyx before, you sure will soon. This pop band has made great strides and the future is looking bright. Although they haven't been signed on to a record label yet, this local sensation has a growing fan base.
And with good reason. Their eclectic style fuses pop, hip hop and rock elements to create a unique sound. The hit single 'Gossip Girl' has gotten a lot of airplay on local radio stations and they recently released 'On The Floor', written by lead vocalist Mahalia Phillips and produced by keyboardist Andre Clarke.
Starting as a six member group, NexCyx has evolved into a smaller, high energy band. Mahalia, Andre, bass player Kris Clarke and guitarist Russell Padmore honed their skills performing on the club circuit in Barbados, making their mark on the local music scene in the process.
The highlight of NexCyx's career was opening for Erykah Badu and Angie Stone before a crowd of almost 10,000 at the Barbados Jazz Festival. Since then the band has had the honour of headlining The Bequia Music Festival and Child Fest (in St. Maarten), and performing at South by South West (SXSW), alongside other Barbadian acts like Kite, in Austin, Texas this year.

Unfortunately, if you're a fan like I am, you won't be able to buy an album from them any time soon.
“We don't intend to release an album in the near future, but rather we are focusing on singles at this point . . . although we will or do have enough to make up one, we are not putting one together in the near future,” Andre insists.
I don't think we'll have to wait too long, however, for their big break. They've proven they have enough appeal for diverse audiences and are ready to hit the international stage.
