Why You Should Be Your Own Boss
I have never considered myself entrepreneurial. In fact, my goal was to find a nice “steady” job within the career that I love that I can do until I retire. However, events of the last 5 or so years have caused me to develop more entrepreneurial dreams.
First there was the havoc of the recession. Employees who were faithful and productive for years lost their pensions and livelihoods and were left reeling from the revelations of the misuse.
Secondly, I worked for someone else and it hurt me physically. I had to work according to their schedule and my ideas and effort were never appreciated the way that I deserved. Therefore, I decided I wanted to follow my passion and at my own determination. I want to be working towards my own dreams, beating my own drum so to speak.

Many of us shudder when we think of entrepreneurship. You get to control your career path but you may be in an insecure financial position, especially in the early stages. There is no definite or secure pay cheque. I argue that there is no secure pay cheque anyway, even in a “secure” job because at any minute you could lose that job. For example, the persons working at Enron and Lehman Brothers thought they had secure jobs and incomes.
Therefore with that in mind we can feel free to truly control our career path by establishing our businesses on sound practice according to our own terms. Yes, it is hard work and there will be many nights where you lay unable to sleep wondering why are you doing this. However, the reward of accomplishing goals you set for your business and your career is well worth the sacrifice.
Being an entrepreneur is great because you determine your own path. Your advancement or promotion is not relying on someone else’s whim or opinion. You don’t have to worry about being held back due to inter-office politics. You don’t have to fight for the raise or recognition you deserve and you directly profit from your hard work while fulfilling your dream.
I want to leave this quote with you that motivates me as I take some very small steps toward entrepreneurship: “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won't, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can't.”
